Lantern Inn anchors the main street Heritage District of Port Hope with the Ganaraska River, the park and the waterfront trail alongside. The Inn, built in 1845, was designed by renowned early Toronto architect, William Thomas, planner of St. Lawrence Hall, St. Michael's Cathedral and many other significant Ontario buildings.
Rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and furnished with custom-crafted four poster canopy beds and cherry and mahogany furniture of early Canadian design. Only an hour east of Toronto, the Inn features fine dining on-site and is within walking distance of the downtown Capitol Performing Arts Centre, and dozens of attractive specialty shops.

The award-winning 1845 Lantern Inn
is comprised of two completely restored, air conditioned, smoke-free buildings.
Lantern Inn building, served by an elevator, has twelve beautifully
appointed, spacious bedrooms, six with fireplaces, all with private baths and queen size beds, desk areas, modem connections. High ceilings and strong mouldings are of the period, as are the large windows which offer wonderful views of the river from the comfortable wing chairs in the room.
Especially inviting are the two large Terrace rooms each with a private terrace overlooking the river.
The adjacent Lantern Suites building, with similar decor and furnishings, has three suites, each suite with full kitchenette facilities, and two bedrooms with private baths. Free parking is provided at the two buildings.

There is always something to do in the picturesque, historic town of Port Hope. Many annual events, live theatre, antique and specialty shops, draw thousands of tourists each year. Settled in 1793, Port Hope is well-known for fine early residences and the architecture of its commercial Heritage Conservation District. In July 2002, the mainstreet was judged as Ontario's Best Preserved Mainstreet, by experts for
TVOntario.
Newly enlarged and refurnished, the Capitol Performing Arts Centre, has a beautifully restored 1930 "atmospheric" medieval-styled courtyard main auditorium and stage. Professional live entertainment is on two stages year-round, including music, comedy, touring headliners, concerts, plays and play readings, plus a live professional summer season and the special Capitol Christmas.
Port Hope has earned a reputation as a major antique centre, and a large selection of excellent antiques can be found within a couple of streets of
Lantern Inn.
The Ganaraska River, flowing through the downtown, is known for great trout and salmon runs in the spring and fall and views from
Lantern Inn windows overlooking the river can be exciting as the fish leap and fight upstream to spawn.
Close at hand, Lantern Inn can arrange Spa services for body care, skin care, hair care, including massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and yoga.
Port Hope offers a minimum of five nearby golf courses.
